Why lab grown is now a core part of the jewelry trade
A lab grown diamond is chemically, physically and optically the same as a mined diamond. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission recognizes it as a real diamond, and it scores a 10 on the Mohs scale like any other. The difference is origin and price. For many clients, that difference means a larger or higher-quality stone within the same budget.
For jewelers, this means more choice at the counter. A client who wanted a 1 carat stone can often move up to 2 carats without changing their spending limit. That makes it easier to close the sale.
What "direct wholesale pricing" should mean
Some sellers use the word "wholesale" loosely. Here is what you should expect from a true wholesale supplier:
- Fewer hands between you and the stone. Buying from a supplier that sources directly keeps intermediary markups out of your cost.
- Transparent descriptions. Every stone should be clearly listed as natural, lab grown or treated, with no ambiguity.
- Independent grading. IGI-certified stones come with a report confirming cut, color, clarity and carat weight, and that the diamond is laboratory grown.
- A supplier who answers. When you need a specific shape, size or matched pair, you should be talking to someone who can help.
How to choose stones for resale
Shape. Rounds remain the top seller for sparkle, but ovals, emeralds, cushions, pears, marquise, princess, radiant and heart shapes all have steady demand. We carry each of these in lab grown, plus vintage-style cuts such as Portuguese, Moval and Old Mine. It's useful to stock a few of each so you can match what walks through the door.
Clarity. For most clients, VS1 to VS2 is the sweet spot: eye-clean and brilliant without paying for perfection nobody can see. For larger stones (roughly 1.5 carats and up) or step cuts like emerald, where the open facets show inclusions more easily, moving up to VVS is worth considering.
Color. D to F is colorless and the most premium. G to J is near-colorless and usually the best value, and it looks white once set. Warmer metals like yellow or rose gold make a faint tint even less noticeable.

When you're reselling a stone, the certificate is part of the product. Lab grown diamonds we supply are graded by independent labs such as IGI, and reports can be provided so your clients can see exactly what they're buying. Keep the report with the stone and include it in the sale.
